Offering Your Own Online Driver Safety Program is Easier and More Affordable than You Think.
If you want to offer online traffic school or driver education program, or wish to apply to become licensed as an online provider, DSMC has the tools and experience to help. Presently, you can offer online traffic school and online driver education in over 30 states across the country, meaning that they can be taken by a user to dismiss a traffic ticket, remove points from a driver record, or satisfy a state’s minimum licensing requirements. These states include, but are not limited to, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, Nevada, Virginia, Texas, Wisconsin, and many others. There are several options available that will allow you to offer an online program:
Refer Your Students to an Online Program for a Commission
This is the perfect solution for online businesses or driving schools who simply want to increase their monthly revenues by offering another online provider’s program in exchange for a commission.

Students will sign-up through a branded registration portal link installed on your website and then take the approved online course with the third party provider. For every student who pays for the course, you will earn a negotiated commission for that referral. You will have full access to an online administrative dashboard where you can review your referrals, view student progress in the course and, most importantly, track your monthly payments. DSMC will help you negotiate the highest commission rates in the industry and ensure that your account is setup quickly and to your full satisfaction.
License a Software as a Service (SaaS) Solution
Our preferred SaaS provider doesn’t offer a one-size-fits-all software that you have to spend time and money configuring.

Our preferred SaaS provider will provide you with a turnkey Learning Management Solution that’s already designed to meet minimum regulatory requirements in all 50 states. You will simply furnish your classroom content and our SaaS provider will construct your online course so that it meets and/or exceeds state requirements. The course setup process is free of charge; however, there is a per student licensing fee required in order to use the software. Once setup, you can submit your own online program to the state regulatory agency for review and approval. DSMC will help you through every step of the setup process, including the course setup, testing and the state application process if necessary.
Develop Your Own Learning Content Management System (LCMS)
This is the most costly option, as it requires you to develop a LCMS that is capable of satisfying state regulatory requirements.

A few examples of common state requirements for traffic school / driver education programs include:
- Completion Reporting: many states have specific completion reporting requirements, including daily XML file uploads or posting completions
via SFTP; - Identity Verification: some states require schools to authenticate a user’s identity whenever he or she is taking the course. ID
verification measures include voice biometrics, credit history checks, security questions; and notarized security affidavits. - Course Interactions: online course participants are often required by the state to answer “environmental” questions, which are based on media
presented in the course and are designed to ensure that the participant is paying attention to the lesson media. - Records retention: electronic footprints of student course activity must typically be stored in an accessible location for a period ranging
from 3 to 5 years, depending on the state. This requires a massive amount of server storage capacity.
While DSMC does not discourage schools from developing their own LMS system to meet these requirements, and can help you in doing so, it is generally less expensive and less time consuming to either license a Software as a Service (SaaS) or offer an existing online provider’s course.
